Virginia Belle Stanley

Virginia Belle Stanley, age 88, of West Mansfield, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Logan Acres Nursing Home with her family at her side following a short illness.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Virginia was retired from the West Mansfield IGA where she worked as a clerk for 40 years. She graduated from West Mansfield High School in 1942 and was a longtime member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. For many years she wrote the West Mansfield Community News for the Marysville Journal-Tribune. Affectionately known as “Granny” or “Grandma Ginny”, Virginia loved playing cards and bingo and treasured time spent with her family. She will be remembered for her constant smile, her loving back scratches, and as a beloved member of the West Mansfield community.

She was born September 21, 1924, in York Center to the late Earl and Nellie Staley Morris. She married Richard Lowell Stanley on June 5, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2009. She was also preceded in death by a son, Duane Stanley, 3 sisters, Bernice Elliott, Rose Correll, and Crystal Wagner, and 4 brothers, Bernard, Leo, John, and Robert Morris.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Darrell (Diane) Stanley, West Mansfield; and Dennis (Patricia) Stanley, Indian Lake; daughter-in-law, Valerie Stanley, Marysville; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, June Roberts, Rushsylvania; a brother, Richard (Polly) Morris, Kenton; 2 sisters-in-law, Bonnie Morris and Eleanor Colvin, each of Florida; many nieces, nephews, friends; and her church family.

Friends may call from Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield where the funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Doug Thompson will officiate and burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Mansfield United Methodist Church or Universal Home Health and Hospice.
