Thomas Lee Notestine, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his residence.
Thomas was born November 10, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Cecil ‘Zeke’ and Josephine (Traul) Notestine. On June 10, 1951 he married Joan Hurst and she preceded him in death on November 28, 1997. He later married Caroline Holmes on April 24, 1999 and she survives in Bellefontaine.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Brian) Lewis of Powell and Nan (David) Kauffman of Worthington and five grandchildren, Erin, Tara, Meredith, Leigh, and Dani.
He is a 1944 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and later served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Thomas owned and operated Notestine Floor Covering in Bellefontaine for many years and also served as President of Colonial Federal Savings and Loan, where he was a board member as well.
He was a founding member of what is now the Mad River Mountain Ski Resort along with six other gentlemen. He was an avid fisherman and fished as often as he could. He was inducted into the Bellefontaine High School Athletic Hall of Fame for football and basketball. He was also a Free and Accepted Mason, belonging to the Bellefontaine Lodge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine with Rev. Rob Fulton and Gene Marine officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Presbyterian Church of Bellefontaine, Firelands Presbyterian Church of Port Clinton, The Holland Theatre, or to the Logan County Transportation Museum.
