Mary E. Goodwin, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine with her family by her side.
She was born on November 18, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Rakos) Barney. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Lee Goodwin and a brother, Joseph Barney.
On July 17, 1942 in Montgomery County, Ohio, she married Thurman H. “Jim” Goodwin and he preceded her in death on February 25, 2009.
She and her husband owned and operated the IGA Grocery Store in Belle Center and Rushsylvania for 40 years.
Survivors include a son, James (Claudia) Goodwin of Daleville, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Deborah Goodwin of Dublin; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Stella E. Williams of Hudson, Florida and a special nephew, Joe Barney of Rushsylvania.
She was a member of Rushsylvania Church of Christ and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling and was also a world traveler. She enjoyed keeping a daily journal and scrapbooking.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine and Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 10-11 a.m. Pastor John James will officiate funeral services on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
