Emery Louis “Louie” Meredith, 98, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He was born on March 11, 1916 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, a son of the late Emery A. and Hazel (Hullinger) Meredith. He was also preceded in death by a son, George E. and a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Meredith.
On June 4, 1938 he married the former Nan Elizabeth Harnish and after 71 years of marriage she preceded him in death on May 22, 2009.
Louie was employed 28 years with Equity Dairy where he was a cheese maker. Following the closing of Equity, he went to work with Tudor Electric. He then worked part-time at Tree Links Golf Course until his retirement. While working at Tree Links, he was named “Employee of the Year” in 1996. In his earlier years he was a cab driver for Bellefontaine where you could go anywhere for 10 cents.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Cole of Bellefontaine; grandsons, Robert Meredith, Scott (Lisa) Meredith, Todd (Sandy) Meredith, Brent (Kelly) Meredith, Shawn (Heather) Cole; 13 grandchildren; brother, Fred K. (Ruth) Meredith; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Meredith of Perrysburg and 2 nieces and one nephew.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a 60-year member of the F&AM where he was a 32nd Degree and a member of the Masonic Drill Team. A member of the Bowling Association for 70 years, he was inducted in 1985 to the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a charter member of the Cherokee Hills Golf Club. He was also a member of the Elks and the Logan County YMCA and volunteered at Logan Acres.
Pastor Ed Beale will officiate an 11 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine where friends may call on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
