Richard L. Kirby, 72, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born on February 22, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late John A. and Janet R. (Gillenwater) Kirby.
On December 28, 1966 in Bellefontaine, he married the former Miriam “Sue” Butterfield and she survives along with sons, Joe (Kim) Kirby of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Lt. Col. Jeff (Jennifer) Kirby of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, John, Emily, Michael and T.J. Kirby; extended family, John and Colleen Gerke.
He worked at State Farm Insurance for 42 years having retired in December of 2009.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 1958 graduate of Toledo DeVilbiss and attended Graceland University in Iowa. He attended the Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point and was a member and Past Master of the Indian Lake Lodge #722 F&AM, Knights Templar, Royal Arch Masons and Royal and Select Masons. He was also a member of Antioch Shrine, Dayton, Ohio and Bukeye Kountry Club. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, was an avid golfer, fishing, playing cards and was a Bridge player. He enjoyed traveling in his RV and wintering in Florida.
Deacon John Gerke will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine where friends may call on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery with military rites by the Logan County Honor Guard.
