Harry L. “Jack” Harman, 81, of West Liberty, passed away while surrounded by his loving family at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus. He was born in North Lewisburg, Ohio on May 12, 1931 to the late Herbert R. and Margaret Sibley Harman. On January 12, 1958 he married the former Judy Detwiler and she survives in West Liberty.
He is also survived by his children Elizabeth Anne (Thomas) Lowry and John Michael (Jeri) Harman, both of West Liberty; four grandchildren, Amanda Jo Harman, Tony M. (Deidre) Harman, Colton T. Lowry and Ross V. Lowry; three great grandchildren, Layne M. Harman, Jack W. Harman and Chance A. Harman; a sister, Jean (Henry) Bochenek of Wasilla, Alaska; two brothers-in-law, John (Sandy) Detwiler and Tom (Pat) Detwiler, both of West Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews. A son, Mark L. Harman and two brothers, Jerry L. Harman and Stanford Harman preceded him in death.
Jack retired from DP&L after 31 years of service. A U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran, he was a 54-year member of American Legion Post 426 and a 53-year member of Mad River Lodge 161 F&AM. He also served as Mayor of West Liberty for 10 years. Jack loved sports and enjoyed coaching West Liberty Little League teams for many years. He loved his family, including his dog Kay.
Per Jack’s request, a private celebration of life service will be conducted at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society or the Mac-O-Chee Ambulance District. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty.
