As the basketball season winds down it becomes time to hand out post-season awards to players and coaches for excellence throughout the season.

Monday night, an area player and coach were recognized for their stellar performances during the season and throughout a heart-stopping tournament run that nearly yielded a district title.

Senior Pirate post player Amelia Carter has been named the Southwest District Division IV Player of the Year. Carter averaged a double-double during the season, including 12 points and 17 rebounds in last weekend’s narrow District Final defeat at the hands of Southeastern.

Carter will attend the University of Cincinnati in the fall on a track scholarship.
