The Bellefontaine varsity boys basketball team rallied past rival Tipp City 53-45 in the Division II sectional final at Springfield High School Saturday night on WBLL.
It's the Chiefs first sectional title in seven years.
BHS handled the higher seeded Red Devils in both regular season matchups (47-34 and 55-31).
Saturday's contest was much different.
Tipp City was the quicker, more aggressive team in the first half. They led 11-10 after the opening quarter and appeared in control after closing the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 27-19 halftime lead.
Bellefontaine came out with renewed energy in the third quarter and seized the momentum.
The Chiefs outscored the Red Devils 19-9 in the third quarter to forge in front 38-36.
Tristin Tillman, A.J. Gorham, and Max Oyer sparked the comeback.
Tillman and Gorham hit perimeter shots and attacked the basket.
BHS sealed the win with stingy defense and clutch free throw shooting in the final quarter.
Bellefontaine outscored Tipp City 15-9 during that stretch.
Tillman scored a game-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half. He was named the Steve Austin's Auto Group Player of the Game.
Oyer recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Gorham tossed in 12 points.
Ben Stucke led Tipp City with 19 points.
The Chiefs have won six out of their last seven games to improve to 16-8. They will play Cincinnati Taft in the district final at UD Arena Friday night at nine o'clock on WBLL.
Listen to Bellefontaine head coach Henry Stolly recap the win.
The Red Devils finish the season 18-7.
In the other sectional final at Springfield, Dayton Carroll overcame a slow start and beat Springfield Shawnee 43-35.
