Pirates power to sectional title - Tuesday softball and baseball finals

The Riverside varsity softball team used its power to win a Division IV sectional title Tuesday night at Houston.

The Pirates edged Franklin Monroe 8-7.

Riverside belted 5 home runs.

Senior standout Marissa Davis hit 3 homers and drove in 4 runs.

Davis has 8 home runs on the season.

Teammates Jalynn Stanley and Shelby Giles each added a home run.

Stanley tossed a complete game with 4 strikeouts.

The Pirates (20-2) will play Mechanicsburg in the district final at West Liberty-Salem on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Mechanicsburg run-ruled Covington 13-1 in 5 innings Tuesday night.

Newton outscored Russia 9-5.

Youth finals:

Pony League:

Belle Center Shaffer's Auto Body ran past Bellefontaine #2 Exchange Club 21-3.

Hayden Kennaw was the winning pitcher.

He gave up 1 hit and struck out 8 in 3 innings.

Jase Stathas pitched 3 innings and struck out 5.

Kosar Kensler and Hunter Kennaw each had triples.

Kennaw and Braden Shaffer each had 3 RBIs.

For Bellefontaine, Lane Reeves pitched 3 innings and recorded 5 Ks.

He also had 2 hits.

Hunter Grow had a triple and Colin Deitsch added a double.

Lakeview Home Center handled West Liberty #2 19-3.

Lukas Wisener was the winning pitcher with 4 strikeouts.

Lane McPherson was 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs.

Wisener recorded 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

Devin Thompson was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Caden Roberts had 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

Caden Hyder and Darrick Curtis each added doubles and an RBI.

For West Liberty #2, L. Shafer had 2 hits and scored twice.

Farm League:

Logan County Keith's Kuts & Kurls beat Bellefontaine #3 10-5.

T-Ball:

West Liberty #2 Brecount Law Office outscored Ridgemont #1 Mt. Victory United Methodist Church 17-11 on Friday.

Mills Lapp had a home run.

Chloe Staten belted a triple.

Mason Wallace added a double.

For Ridgemont #1, Austin Zapata and Braxten Bailey each had 2 hits.
