Former Bellefontaine great Tyler Melling (pictured) was just named The Cardinal Nation Pitcher of the Month.
The lanky left-hander had a dominant July, yielding just one earned run in 24 1/3 innings.
He struck out 22 and only gave up one walk.
Melling, 23, plays for the Batavia Muckdogs in the New York Penn League, which is an A affiliate for St. Louis.
The former Miami of Ohio standout was selected in the 39th round by the Cardinals in the 2011 draft.
Melling said playing professional baseball is a childhood dream.
Listen to him reflect on the award, compare this season to his rookie campaign, and more.
The Muckdogs will conclude their season in early September.
Melling's goal is to advance to high A or double AA next year.
He graduated from BHS in 2007.
