Raiders drop first matches of the season - Saturday volleyball scoreboard

The Benjamin Logan varsity volleyball team competed in the Sherri Applefeller Classic at Marion Elgin High School on  Saturday. The Raiders returned with mixed results. Benjamin Logan beat Delaware Hayes in straight games 25-17 and 25-22. The Raiders dropped their second and third matches of the day to Upper Sandusky 21-25 and 15-25 and Fairbanks 27-29 and 24-26. The Raiders go to 13-2 on the season.

On the day, Ciarra Wirick recorded 24 kills and 27 digs, Alex Thompson had 20 kills and 7 blocks, Kylee Smith had 15 kills and 17 digs, and Jen Poling contributed 22 digs. Marissa Wilbur dished out 73 assists.

The Raiders will travel to Greenon on Tuesday evening. JV game time is set for 5:30.

The Bellefontaine varsity volleyball team went 1-2 in the Piqua Invitational.

The Chiefs lost to state-ranked Lehman 17-25, 17-25.

Shelbi Kauffman had 10 digs, Jazmyn Haley blasted 5 kills, and Carley Strzalka was 8 for 8 serving.

Bellefontaine defeated Dayton Oakwood 25-19, 18-25, and 26-24.

Jaelyn Jester had 13 assists, Jessica Kinchen recorded 12 digs and 6 kills, Kenzie Brunswick tallied 7 kills, Jazmyn Haley had 6 kills, and Carley Strzalka and Jester were perfect serving.

The Chiefs then lost to Piqua 25-27, 19-25.

Shelbi Kauffman had 8 digs, Kenzie Brunswick had 3 blocks, and Whitney Rader and Strzalka were perfect serving.

The Chiefs (9-5) finished in sixth place out of eight teams. BHS will host Sidney Monday.

West Liberty-Salem finished 1-2 in the Minster Invitational.

The Tigers swept Marion Pleasant 25-10, 25-16.

Rachel Loffing had 8 digs, 5 kills, 5 digs, Kylee Hormann pounded 9 kills, Courtney Milliron tallied 9 digs, and Autumn Klinger had 14 assists and 4 aces.

West Liberty-Salem fell to Russia 8-25, 13-25.

Courtney Milliron had 7 digs and Autumn Klinger tallied 4 kills and 3 assists.

The Tigers lost to Marion Pleasant 19-25, 22-25.

Rachel Loffing pounded 8 kills, Autumn Klinger dished out 7 assists, and Megan Etgen added 6 digs.

Jr. High:

The Benjamin Logan eighth grade added two more wins to their record by defeating Fairbanks and Sidney Holy Angels on Saturday.

The Lady Raiders defeated Fairbanks in three games (28-26, 22-25, 25-21).

Brianna Frazier was 13 of 14 serving with 4 aces, Hayley Boysel was 11 of 12 serving with 4 aces, Allie Wilson was 8 of 10 serving, and Coreen Crosby and Ashley Wilkins were each 7 of 8 serving.

Offensively, Frazier had 12 kills and Boysel had 11 assists.

Defensively the team combined for 10 blocks.

The Lady Raiders defeated Sidney Holy Angels in 3 games as well (25-17, 20-25, and 25-22).

Hayley Boysel was 18 of 18 serving with 6 aces and Addie Rodenberger was 13 of 14 serving with 3 aces.

Offensively, Coreen Crosby tallied 5 kills and Brianna Frazier tallied 4 kills.

The Lady Raiders improve to 11-2 and will host Indian Lake Monday.

The seventh grade Raiders swept Fairbanks (25-19, 26-24) and Sidney Holy Angels (25-23, 25-13) on Saturday during play at Benjamin Logan.

Against Fairbanks, the Raiders were strong with their serves. McKinzie Jones was 15/17 serving with 9 aces, Stanleigh Archer went 9/10 with 2 aces, Kennedy Richards 4/4 with 2 aces, Madison Jones 7/8 with 1 aces, Josselyn Terry 2/4 with 1 ace, and Avery Braun went 5/5 serving.

Offensively, K. Jones had 2 kills and 3 assists, Archer added 2 kills and 1 assist, M. Jones tallied 2 kills and 3 assists, and Brooke Cotner added 1 kill for the Raiders.

McKinzie Jones again led the way for the Raiders against Holy Angels going 15/16 serving with 7 aces, 4 kills and 2 assists. Archer went 13/13 serving with 1 ace, 2 kills and 3 assists. Finally, Braun was 2/4 serving with 2 aces.

The Raiders are now 6-7 and host Indian Lake on Monday at 5:00.
