Jr. High "Volley for the Cure" raises over $2,000

This Saturday was Volley for the Cure at Benjamin Logan Middle School.

The Lady Raiders hosted the Lady Chiefs from Bellefontaine and the Lady Lakers from Indian Lake. The three schools were able to raise $2400 towards the fight against Breast Cancer. 

On the court, the 8th grade Lady Raiders defeated both Indian Lake and Bellefontaine.

In the first game against Indian Lake, the scores were 25-16 and 25-22.

Hayley Boysel was 12 of 12 serving, with 4 aces. Offensively, Brianna Frazier was 17 of 17 setting with 9 assists and Betsy King was 11 of 11 setting with 3 assists. Also on the offensive side were Darian Rockhold with 7 kills and Coreen Crosby with 6 kills. Defensively, Crosby put up two blocks.

The Lady Raiders defeated Bellefontaine with scores of 25-15 and 25-17.

King was 13 of 14 serving with 5 aces; Boysel had 5 aces; and Frazier had 4 aces. Offensively, King was 15 of 15 setting with 5 assists; Ashley Wilkins had 5 kills; and Boysel had 3 kills.

The 8th grade Lady Raiders finish their season with a record of 16-3. They will play in tournament action next Saturday at Benjamin Logan.

The Tigers eighth grade lost to Graham 23-25, 20-25.

Leading the Tigers was Kiana Reames with 8 points, 2 aces and 1 kill; Kelby Strapp had 4 points and 1 kill; and Mikalia McIntosh had 8 kills and 2 blocks.

The eighth grade Lady Tigers are now 5-9 and play Triad at home on Monday.

The WL-S seventh grade defeated Graham in 3 sets 25-22, 25-21 and 26-24.

Jonni Parker had 17 points, 11 aces and 6 kills; Tory Cordell had 12 points, 6 aces and 5 kills; and Aubrie Stillings and Abby Dillion each had 5 points.

The seventh grade Lady Tigers improve to 13-1 on the season and will host Triad on Monday at 5:00p.

The Benjamin Logan freshmen picked up two wins on Saturday morning.

The Raiders beat Bellefontaine in match one, 25-18 and 25-17. Then the Raiders beat Marion Harding 25-19 and 25-18 in match two.

The freshmen are now 5-9 on the season. 

On the day, Darrin Bricker recorded 5 kills, Natalie Drumm added 6 kills and 13 points, and Jessie Griffin had 3 points with 1 ace and an assist.

 The Benjamin Logan 7th grade squad hosted a tri-match with Indian Lake and Bellefontaine.

The 7th grade Lady Raiders lost to Indian Lake in 2 sets: 25-10 and 25-17.

For Benjamin Logan Stanleigh Archer was 6 of 6 serving, fired 2 aces, 1 kill, 1 block, and 2 assists, McKinzie Jones recorded 2 kills and an assist, Madison Jones was 8 of 9 serving contributing an ace, Brooke Cotner was 2 of 3 serving, and Kennedy Richards added an ace and a dig.

The 7th grade Lady Raiders defeated Bellefontaine in 2 sets: 25-20 and 25-23.

Kennedy Richards was 10 of 12 with 2 aces and a dig, Stanleigh Archer recorded 2 kills, McKinzie Jones contributed 2 aces and 2 kills, Brooke Cotner ripped an ace and a kill, Josselyn Terry was 3 of 5 serving, and Madison Jones was 3 of 6 serving.

On the day for the Indian Lake 7th grade, Skylr Timbrook, Lauren Anderson and Payton Manahan each fired 9 aces, Aubrey Grider recorded 3 kills, and Libby Cotterman added 2 kills. 

For the Bellefontaine 7th grade, Kiersten King contributed a total of 14 points.

West Liberty-Salem competed in a tri-match at Jackson Center. 

The varsity Lady Tigers lost to Jackson Center in 2 sets:  25-9 and 25-18.

Courtney Milliron recorded 13 digs and Jamie Peterson and Rachel Loffing each contributed 5 kills.

The varsity Lady Tigers fell to Urbana in 3 sets: 25-22, 20-25, 25-11.

Kylee Hormann tallied 12 kills and Autumn Klinger delivered 20 assists.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity team falls to 10-10 on the season.

The JV Lady Tigers fell to Jackson center in 2 sets: 25-14 and 25-20.

The JV Lady Tigers lost to Urbana in 2 sets: 25-14 and 25-21.
