Raiders edge 'Climbers to win outright CBC volleyball title

The Benjamin Logan varsity volleyball team (pictured) captured the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division title outright Thursday evening with a five-set win over visiting Urbana on Senior Night. The scores were 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 28-30, and 16-14.

The Raiders are 20-2 overall and 10-0 in the CBC.

Ciarra Wirick recorded 14 kills, 22 digs, and 6 blocks, Alex Thompson had 14 kills, 11 points, and 4 blocks, Kylee Smith tallied 10 kills and 17 digs, Jessica Yoder delivered 12 digs, and Marissa Wilbur dished out 41 assists.

The JV Raiders finished their season with a three-set victory over Urbana. They improve to 16-3.  Katie Bisel had 7 kills, Tayler Rose dished out 12 assists and had 9 points, and Catie Johnson tallied 12 digs and 5 points.

The freshman Raiders lost to Urbana in 2 sets. Kate Campbell recorded 4 kills and 6 digs, Jessie Griffin had 2 points and 3 digs, and Megan Rutan dished out 11 assists.

The top-seeded Benjamin Logan varsity will open tournament play Saturday against Trotwood-Madison at Tecumseh High School. Game time is 1:30.

Indian Lake hosted Greenon for Senior Night.

All three seniors were excellent during their three-set win over the Knights (25-18, 25-18, 25-23).

Anna Yerian had a great night on serve receive and racked up 8 digs, Claire Maier led the team on serving with 4 aces, and Mikaela Oyer had a team-high 11 kills.

The JV Lakers won in two sets in their final match of the season. Caylee Wurster and Kalin Harper both hit well.

The Lakers play Tipp City on Saturday in the opening round of the sectional at Tecumseh. Game time is 10:30.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity defeated Northeastern 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.

Freshman Jamie Peterson had 10 kills and 11 digs, Courtney Milliron tallied 16 digs, and Megan Etgen and Autumn Klinger each added 6 kills.

The Tigers are 12-10.

The JV Tigers defeated the Jets 22-25, 25-23, 25-15.

Jr. High:

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade team beat Mechanicsburg in 2 sets: 25-22 and 25-15.

Kelby Strapp fired 11 points, 7 aces, and 1 kill, Mikalia McIntosh recorded 7 points, 3 aces, 5 kills, and 1 block, and Olivia Ames added 5 points, 2 aces, and 3 kills.

The 8th Grade Lady Tigers finish their season 7-9 and host the OHC tournament Saturday. Their first game is against Mechanicsburg.

The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade team defeated Mechanicsburg in 2 sets: 25-9 and 25-16.

Jonni Parker tallied 11 points, 10 aces, and 3 kills, Karli Dowden contributed 9 points and 4 aces, Macy Murphy recorded 5 points, and Tory Cordell added 3 kills.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers end the regular season 15-1 and host the OHC tournament Saturday.
