Sparked by a lone first-half goal with seven seconds left, Bellefontaine defeated Benjamin Logan 5-0 Tuesday night in the first round of the sectional boys soccer tournament at Dodd Field in Bellefontaine.
Third-seeded Bellefontaine was locked in a tight defensive struggle with the tenth-seeded Raiders until Matt Baughman scored his second goal of the year off a pass from Josh Neighoff.
The flood gates opened in the second half. Landyn Butler got his first goal of the year and Thoryn Jackson (pictured left) scored twice. Ethan Tullis assisted on the second one. Matt Anderson scored the final goal.
Bellefontaine had 22 shots on goal. Benjamin Logan managed 3.
Senior Keeper Zach Gingerich recorded his ninth shutout of the year.
Bellefontaine again played without starters Lucas Stoltzfus and Nick Gingerich.
Neither player is expected to be available for the Thursday night second-round match against Indian Lake at Dodd Field.
Benjamin Logan finishes the season 2-14-1.
Bellefontaine is now 10-3-3.
