Meghan Vogel (pictured) won the regional cross country meet at Troy Saturday afternoon, leading the West Liberty-Salem girls team back to the state meet next weekend for the fourth consecutive year.
Vogel won with a time of 18:48 which was 31 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Jasmine Smith came in 6th, Alyssa Strickland was 11th and Shawnda Henault was 17th.
Overall, the Lady Tigers finished 3rd. The top four teams advance to the state meet.
Last year the Lady Tigers finished 3rd at state.
They are the first girls team in school history to qualify for four consecutive state meets.
Also running for WL-S was Savannah Shipp (81), Madison Woodruff (108), and Sarah Williams (110).
Riverside had one runner in the field and Ella Jackson came in 34th.
The WL-S boys are also packing for state next weekend because their team also finished 3rd. It is the second consecutive appearance for the Big Orange, and the 15th in school history.
Aaron Scott paced the Tigers coming in 9th while Joey Adams was 12th and Alex Adams 17th. Last year the team ran in the state meet and finished 10th.
Other finishers for the boys in the field of 128 were Chris Buscher (46), Ross Kelley (85), Stephen Whetstine (98), Alex Steiner (105).
Both teams will run at National Trail Raceway in Hebron next Saturday. The boys will run at 11:00 and the girls at 1:30.
