The annual Ski Patrol Ski Swap takes place in the Main Base Lodge and features sales on new and used ski & snowboard equipment. New this year the patrol has expanded the sale to include outdoor gear such as camping equipment, kayaks, and other outdoor apparel. Those looking to put items on sale are asked to bring the items to the lodge by 9am to have them inventoried and displayed properly. The Ski Swap is organized and benefits the volunteer ski patrol department at Mad River. Eighteen percent of all sales goes towards funding for equipment, training, and supplies for the ski patrol.
Outside, Mad River will host its annual preseason Capital Rail Jam. Mad River's park crew will be bringing in 50,000 lbs of shaved ice to create a mini-terrain park on the lower mountain ski slopes. Park enthusiasts will be able to "jib" off of three different featured lines constructed out of wood, steel, and the shaved ice. Those wishing to participate must sign a waiver and wear a helmet.
Food & beverage will be offered featuring a BBQ of hamburgers, hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches. Soda and beer will also be available from a draft trailer. To keep those watching warm a large scale bonfire will take place along with tunes from DJ Ant.
In addition to the ski swap and rail jam, Mad River's office will be open for season pass sales. All those purchasing their pass in person will receive a free t-shirt with their purchase. The ETC retail shop in the main lodge will also be open for those looking to pick up some early holiday shopping items.
