Heidelberg University cross country members ran in Anderson, Indiana at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Saturday in their final meet of the season.
Former Benjamin Logan standout Logan Leis (pictured) led the Heidelberg men, recording a time of 26:21.12 across the 8k course. Leis, a junior, earned a 49th place finish in his third regional meet.
“Logan got after it today and led the team very well, said head coach Briana Hess. “He got out to a great start and put it all out there.”
Freshman Brad Palocko (Medina) has had an impressive season that was capped off with a 70th place finish at the Great Lakes Regional. Palocko ran a 26:38.36 for the Student Princes.
Senior Dustin Kuess (Coldwater) finished third on the team with a time of 27:19.78. Kuess average a time of 5:29.9 per mile.
The freshmen trio of Avery Gatchell (Fostoria/Hopewell-Loudon), Zach Flint (Delaware/Hayes) and Lynn Leatherman (Liberty Center) showed well for the Berg in their first regional meet. The young trio finished the course in 27:43.95, 28:15.80 and 29:21.02 respectively.
“Flint had to step up and be our fifth guy, but he ran a tough race and achieved a huge personal best,” said Hess.
The Heidelberg women were led by senior Bobbi Custer of Triad, who clocked a 23:44.90 over the 6k women’s course.
Junior Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) finished the race in 106th position with a time of 24:29.14.
“For the women, Bobbi and Sophie tried to position themselves early. They ran with a lot of heart today,” said Hess.
Freshman Erica Miller (Enon/Greenon), competing in her first regional meet, clocked a time of 25:40.12.
The only three Heidelberg women competed in Anderson so the Berg ladies were not scored in the team standings.
