Updated: Chiefs drop opener at Celina - Basketball scoreboard

The high school boys basketball season opened Friday night.

Bellefontaine lost at Celina 70-57.

The game was tied 29-29 at the half.

The Chiefs raced to a seven-point lead in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs stormed back to take a 46-44 lead heading into the final quarter.

Celina sealed the win by outscoring Bellefontaine 24-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs full court pressure was a key factor.

Celina forward Matt Buschur was the Steve Austin's Player of the Game. He scored all of his 17 points in the second half.

Bellefontaine standout Matt Gump led all scorers with 19.

The JV Chiefs lost 50-43 in double overtime.

Daniel Boy tossed in 18 points.

The Chiefs will try to bounce back next Friday in their home opener against league rival Springfield Shawnee on WBLL.

West Liberty-Salem fell to visiting Springfield Shawnee 54-46.

Braves senior standout Jailen Williams scored a game-high 25 points.

Three Tigers were in double figures. Senior guard Grant Burden had 15 points, Landon Hormann dropped in 13, and Max Bailey added 12.

The JV Tigers lost 50-40.

Michael McIntosh had 13 points and Brandon Adams poured in 12 points.

Botkins defeated Riverside 52-48 in the Benjamin Logan Tip-Off Classic.

Mechanicsburg used a fast start to beat host Benjamin Logan 66-54.

Benjamin Logan will play Riverside in the consolation game Saturday night at six o'clock.

The Trojans and Indians will meet in the championship game Saturday at 8 p.m.

Kenton ran past host Indian Lake 74-48.

Fairbanks beat Triad 53-46.

Ridgemont lost to Mt. Gilead 56-52.

Tyler Tillman paced the Gophers with 18 points, Tim Cowan scored 15, and Josh Corbin added 11.

Waynesfield-Goshen slipped past Parkway 52-51.

Jackson Center stifled Houston 39-26.

Fairlawn won at Anna 67-52.

Ft. Loramie handled New Knoxville 51-34.

Minster edged Lehman 63-60.

Wapakoneta defeated Piqua 69-49.

New Bremen nipped Allen East 58-56.

Ft. Recovery ran past St. Marys 58-43.

New Riegel edged Upper Scioto Valley 51-49.

Jr. High:

The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade girls beat Triad 27-16.

Jonni Parker had 17 points and 9 rebounds, Aubrie Stillings recorded 6 points and 3 assists, and Laine Godwin added 4 points and 5 rebounds.

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade girls handled Triad 34-17.

Lily Yoder tallied 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 steals, Mikaila McIntosh had 6 points and 3 assists, and Olivia Ames and Kiana Reames added 4 points apiece.
