Bellefontaine senior standout Matt Gump hit a three-pointer in the final minute to lift the Chiefs past host West Liberty-Salem 35-34 Saturday night on WBLL.
Gump hit a three with 34 seconds remaining to give Bellefontaine its first and only lead in the second half.
West Liberty-Salem missed a three-pointer and a runner on the right side of the lane in the final 10 seconds.
Defense dominated throughout the game.
The Chiefs raced to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter behind five quick points by Gump.
WLS standout Landon Hormann picked up two fouls in the first 90 seconds of the game. He was forced to watch the rest of the opening quarter. Hormann was a spark in the second quarter when the Tigers outscored the Chiefs 13-4 to take a 23-19 lead at the half.
Both teams scored eight points in the third quarter. Bellefontaine had eight points in the final quarter while holding the Tigers to three points.
Gump scored a game-high 11 points. He was named the Steve Austin's Player of the Game.
Teammates Jake Kennedy and Brett Wisner each added 8 points.
The Chiefs have won four straight to move to 4-2. They will host Jonathan Alder Wednesday night on 1390 WBLL.

Hormann led the Tigers with 10. Fellow senior Grant Burden added 7.
WLS had their seven-game winning streak snapped.
The Tigers (7-2, 5-0) will host Triad Friday night.
The JV Chiefs edged the Tigers 38-37.
Indian Lake was beaten by St. Marys 75-58. For the Lakers Brennon Lump scored 19 points, Ivan Reichert 18, and Christian Grider 13.

The West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers used a blistering fourth quarter to come from behind to beat Catholic Central 58-51.
The Tigers, who found themselves trailing after three 43-34, outscored CC 24-8 in the final stanza to steal the win.
Melany Ward hit five three-pointers and finished with 25 points overall. Maria Daulton added 14 points.
In the second day of the Bradford Holiday Tournament the Riverside Lady Pirates took on Troy Christian in the consolation game, falling 56-22.
Chelsea Giles led Riverside with seven points.
The JV Pirates advanced to the championship game but fell to Bradford 48-25.
For the Pirates Taylor Stevens scored eight points.
