Vito soars to 6th at Winter X Games (Video included)

Bellefontaine native and Olympian Louie Vito (pictured) finished 6th in the much anticipated Winter X Games Superpipe finals Sunday night in Aspen, Colorado.

The event featured the sixteen best snowboarders in the world, including many Olympians.

An elimination round was held Thursday night. The top eight advanced to the finals.

Louie finished eighth to advance.

Shaun White won his sixth consecutive X Games Gold by recording a 98 on his second run.

The superpipe course is approximately 567-foot long and 66 feet wide, with 22-foot walls. The event is judged on amplitude, execution, difficulty, landings, and use of the course.

Here are the top finishers:

1. Shaun White, USA, 98.00

2. Ayumu Hirano, Japan, 92.33

3. Markus Malin, Finland, 91.33

4. Scotty Lago, USA, 90.00

5. Greg Bretz, USA, 84.66

Swiss rider Iouri Podladtchikov (I-Pod), who had the highest score in the elimination round, was unable to compete Sunday because of a stomach virus.

The superpipe was the final event of the X Games, which aired on ESPN.

Vito will compete in the final leg of the U.S. Grand Prix in Park City, Utah, later this week. He finished third in the opening round earlier this month.
