Update: Chiefs open baseball season with win, Lady Pirates beat Urbana

The Bellefontaine Chieftains Varsity baseball team blanked St. Marys Memorial on Saturday 9-0.

Cody Lyons picked up the win, giving up just four hits over five innings of work while striking out six. Matt Entsminger pitched a perfect final two innings to close the shutout.

Powering the offense was Nick Burton with three each hits, runs, and RBI and Jared Houchin also with three hits including a home run, and adding a run and four RBI.

Tyler Jones came up big at the dish, leading BHS Red JV to a 12-7 win over St. Marys on Saturday at Bellefontaine.

Jones got on base four times in the game for BHS Red JV. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the second and fourth innings.

Lane Kiser got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered six hits.

The Riverside varsity girls’ softball team defeated Urbana 9-3 Saturday.

Producing RBIs for the Lady Pirates were Heather Comer with 3 and Christyn Wietholter and Taylor Goings each contributed 2.

Jessica Davis struck out 4 and allowed 7 hits.

The Lady Pirates improve to 2-0 on the year.
