Pair of Raiders compete in track classic; Bellefontaine Parks & Rec hands out awards, plus meet results

Coreen Crosby, an incoming freshman at Benjamin Logan competed in the Worthington Summer Track Classic on Friday and Saturday this week in the heptathlon. The heptathlon is a 7-event competition spread over two days that is scored using a point system awarded for distances and times. Coreen finished 2nd in the meet in the 15-16 age group with 2874 points, just 36 points behind the first place finisher. Coreen qualifies for the regional meet July 11-12 held in Michigan. 

Coreen's marks in order of competition:

Day 1

100m Hurdles - 18.3 (458 points)

High Jump - 4' 3.25" (409 points)

Shot Put - 24' 5.75" (365 points)

200m Dash - 30.1     (475 points)

Day 2

Long Jump - 13' 11.75" (369 points)

Javelin - 73' 6"      (334 points)

800m Run - 2:50.0     (464 points)

Her brother Aaron Crosby also competed in the same meet in four individual events. Aaron will be a sophomore at Benjamin Logan next year.

In his 15-16 age group, he finished 1st in the Javelin (88' 10") and the High Jump (5' 7"), 6th in the 200m Dash (24.01), and 8th in the 100m Dash.

The Bellefontaine Parks and Recreation Jr. Track program handed out Sportsmanship awards recently.

Athletes honored were Caitlyn Stolly, Colton Costin, Titus Davie, Kayla Plummer, Morgan Johns, Lauren Carter, Joy Brandt, Tyler Reinhard, and Andrew Reinhard.

The program also held their third track meet last Thursday. Winners, by age category and event, were as follows:

7-8 girls

Abigail Reinhard (broad jump 4’11”, 50m 9.0, 100m 18.12); Karys Varner (softball throw 38’); Ashlyn Gonterman (200m 42.47)

7-8 boys

CJ Wilson (broad jump 5’2”, softball throw 73’, 50m 9.0, 100m 17.19); Miles Wilcoxin (200m 42.09)

9-10 girls

Kayla Plummer (50m 8.07, 100m 15.59, 200m 34.37); Meridith McClain (400m 1:20.09, 800m 3:05); Montana Buck (broad jump 5’7”); Erica Wayne (softball throw 68’)

9-10 boys

Colton Costin (broad jump 5’9”, softball throw 86’, 50m 8.19, 100m 15.62, 200m 37.12, 400m 1:20.69); Max Varner (800m 3:20, 1600m 7:59)

11-12 girls

Lauren Carter (softball throw 94’, 100m 13.81, 200m 28.63, 400m 1:09.22); Chelsea Burkhammer (800m 3:03, 1600m 7:08); Rachel McGill (broad jump 6’6”)

11-12 boys

Garrett Jenkins (softball throw 110’, 400m 1:14.54, 800m 2:50); Alex Freyhof (100m 14.38, 200m 31.69); Brandon Hayes (broad jump 7’1”); Tate Campbell (1600m 6:51)

13-14 girls

Bailey Morales (broad jump 6’0”, softball throw 116’, 200m 34.27, 400m 1:20.65, 800m 3:14)

13-14 boys

Andrew Reinhard (100m 13.97, 200m, 400m, 800m); Tyler Reinhard (broad jump 6’5”, softball throw 123’)

Jr. Track will continue to have practices for all age groups on Tuesday and Thursday next week.  The last meet is the Hershey Qualifying Meet scheduled on Tuesday, June 25 at 6:00 P.M. at BHS track.
