The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the 2013 Spring All-Academic & All-Academic Excellence Teams. All-Academic Teams are comprised of those student-athletes that meet criteria and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0-3.49. Academic Excellence Teams are comprised of student athletes that have a cumulative GPA of 3.50-4.0.
The Urbana University lacrosse team landed a pair of players on the All-Academic Team and three more on the All-Academic Excellence Team. Senior midfielder Nora Boerger (Milford Center, Ohio/Fairbanks HS) and junior defender Heather Abdalla (Milford Center, Ohio/Fairbanks HS) were named Academic All-Conference, while juniors Ashley Gerken (Laguna Hills, California/Mission Viejo HS) and Chiara Corsmeier (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) joined freshman Shannon Meyer (Pickerington, Ohio/Central HS) on the Academic All-Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.50.
This past spring, the Blue Knights completed its first season as an associate member in the GLIAC for women’s lacrosse. Urbana finished in seventh place at 2-6, one spot out of a qualifying position for the post-season tournament. The Blue Knights were 3-11 overall in the program’s third year of NCAA Division II competition.
