On Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Weidmann Park, the City of Urbana Shade Tree Commission will host a tree planting workshop and tree planting ceremony to celebrate Arbor Day. Weidmann Park is located at the intersection of Gwynne Street and Railroad Street (Weidmann Way). The tree planting workshop will be provided by Alistair Reynolds who serves as a Regional Urban Forester for the Division of Forestry with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The community is invited to attend this workshop/ceremony. National Arbor Day has been celebrated since 1872 when J. Sterling Morton proposed and organized the first celebration in the State of Nebraska. Today, Arbor Day is celebrated in all fifty states, including Ohio. The City of Urbana’s planned celebration of Arbor Day is part of the city’s efforts to continue to be recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.
