Spirit of Urbana: A One-Day Rail Adventure to a Community Celebration Like No Other
URBANA, OH — Climb aboard a journey through time and community as the Ohio Rail Experience and the Champaign County Visitors Bureau proudly announce the Spirit of Urbana, a special one-day train excursion departing from Washington Court House, Ohio and bringing passengers to the heart of downtown Urbana for an unforgettable day of fun, festivities, and small-town charm. Set for Saturday, June 14th, this heritage rail adventure transports guests through the countryside aboard beautifully restored railcars, arriving in Urbana where a full schedule of exciting events awaits. Upon arrival, passengers will be provided free transportation courtesy of the Champaign County Visitors Bureau directly to the festival area downtown.
A Day of Celebration Awaits in Downtown Urbana. Visitors arriving by train—and everyone from the region and beyond—are invited to join the festivities in downtown Urbana, where the streets will come alive with:
● The Second Saturday Festival – A community celebration featuring local artisans, delicious food trucks, live music, shopping, and family-friendly entertainment.
● The Black Heritage Festival – A powerful and joyful tribute to African American culture and contributions, featuring music, storytelling, vendors, exhibits, and soul food.
A One-Time-Only Attraction: Downtown Roller-Skating Rink
In a first for downtown Urbana, the city will debut a pop-up roller skating rink—a special attraction available for this event only! Lace up your skates and glide beneath the open sky in a nostalgic nod to summer fun, right in the middle of Urbana’s historic streetscape. “This event truly showcases the heart of our community,” said Sara Neer, Director of the Champaign County Visitors Bureau. “We’re excited to welcome visitors arriving by train and everyone else who wants to spend a memorable day enjoying Urbana’s culture, hospitality, and
some brand-new surprises like our outdoor skating rink.” After a full afternoon of exploration, celebration, and skating, Spirit of Urbana passengers will
reboard the train and return to Washington Court House, capping off a seamless and scenic
round-trip experience.
