For the third time, Karen Wilson has been appointed to serve on the Bellefontaine City Schools Board of Education.

The Board of Education held a quick special meeting Wednesday to fill recent vacancies, appointing Wilson to the school board and Aaron Garver to the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board.

Wilson will complete the unexpired term of Rick Reed, who resigned effective January 28 after being named superintendent of the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District.

During the meeting, Wilson took the oath of office, stating:

“I, Karen Wilson, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the State of Ohio; and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform the duties of the office to which I have been appointed to the best of my ability and understanding, this I do as I shall answer unto God.”

Wilson previously served on the board but did not win reelection in November, when she was defeated by Reed.

She was first appointed to the board in 2020 and reappointed in January 2022.

That term expired on December 31, 2025.

Her current term runs through December 2027.

BCS Board President Colin Yoder issued this statement from the district:

” During a special meeting on February 18, the Bellefontaine City School District Board of Education appointed Karen Wilson to fulfill the remaining term of Rick Reed who resigned from the board of education in January to accept the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Superintendent position. In the November 2025 election, Karen received the next highest number of votes in the board of education race, so her appointment respects the will of local voters. The board also chose Karen because she is a committed, thoughtful, and experienced leader who can quickly contribute as the board works to address a funding shortfall created by our state legislators’ efforts to defund Ohio’s public schools. Her unexpired term ends December 2027. During the same meeting, the board appointed Aaron Garver to serve on the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board of Trustees. Aaron will fulfill the remaining term of Joliece Reed, who resigned from the board following her husband’s appointment as Recreation District Superintendent. His unexpired term ends December 2026.”

Additionally, Yoder said,

Wilson said she is ready to once again represent the community.

During the meeting, it was also reported that Joliece Reed has resigned from her position as the district’s representative on the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board, effective January 28, 2026.

Her resignation followed her husband’s appointment as recreation district superintendent.

Superintendent Brad Hall recommended the appointment of Aaron Garver to fill the remainder of Reed’s term, which expires December 31, 2026.

Garver received a unanimous vote of approval from the board.

Both appointments were approved to ensure continuity in leadership for Bellefontaine City Schools and the local recreation district.
