The Benjamin Logan Board of Education met in regular session Monday night. It began with a public hearing to solicit comments on the retire/rehire of longtime district employee Sally Stolly.

Stolly, who recently retired at the end of the 2025/2026 school year after serving the district for 22 years, most recently as the district’s Director of Administrative Services, sought to be rehired by the district, taking advantage of a provision under the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) for non-teaching personnel (such as administrative, bus, or custodial staff).

Per OPERS regulations, if an employee wishes to be rehired by the district, the district must observe a waiting period, advise the public, and hold a public hearing before reemploying the individual in the same position.

Two school employees spoke in favor of rehiring Stolly. Later in the meeting, the board unanimously voted to bring Stolly back. Her start date is set for September 1, 2026.

In his report to the board, Ohio Hi-Point board member John Stanford said that the new building is progressing on schedule. The building will house the new Criminal Justice/Fire/EMT classes. Stanford also said that 750 students are expected this coming year, and Student Orientation was held on August 12th.

District Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds Tim Scheiderer told the board that the roof at the Elementary school has been repaired. He also said that the concession stand at the Baseball and Softball fields was recently redone due to storm damage.

In his report to the board, District Superintendent Dr. Sean Flynn recommended that the board approve a contract for the first half of the school year with the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD) to provide services to the district’s special needs preschool students.

Dr. Flynn reminded the board that the LCBDD has a levy on the November ballot to fund the services it offers. In the event the levy fails, the total the district will need to pay for the services will rise dramatically.

Currently, the district contracts for up to 30 students with the LCBDD. Also, according to Dr. Flynn, the district is mandated to provide services for students who need it. Dr. Flynn said he values the partnership the district has forged with the LCBDD in the past:

Additionally, the board approved contracting the services with Averly Assessment & Consulting, LLC to provide the district with a psychologist. The current contract authorizes up to 36 hours per week, but according to Dr. Flynn, the district is only billed for the hours actually used.

The board also approved the following donations from the Honda Corporation:

  • $1,000 from Honda for Middle School Robotics Programs
  • $2,500 from Honda for High School Robotics Programs

The next Board Meeting will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the district office.
