The City of Bellefontaine Water Department has issued a boil water advisory for several locations in the city.

According to the public notice, the advisory will remain in effect until water samples are collected and tested to confirm the system is safe for normal use.

Residents in the affected areas are being instructed to boil water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or any other consumption purposes.

Officials also advise allowing water to run until it clears if it appears discolored or cloudy.

The boil advisory applies to the following locations:

  • All apartment units at Peak of Ohio Apartments, 547 East Columbus Avenue
  • 601 East Columbus Avenue through 705 East Columbus Avenue
  • 113 North Hayes Street through 236 North Hayes Street
  • 554, 550, and 546 East Sandusky Avenue

City officials say the advisory is a precautionary measure and emphasize there have been no confirmed reports of illness related to the water.

Further information will be released as testing is completed and results become available.
