A fire that began Monday afternoon around 12:30 PM in a burn barrel quickly escalated, destroying a home and several acres of land outside Belle Center. Officials say dry conditions and high winds helped the flames spread rapidly.

Multiple fire departments—including Richland Township, Huntsville, Bellefontaine, Kenton, Mt. Victory, and McGuffy—responded to the blaze.

BMRT EMS and the Union County EMA also assisted, with the EMA providing drinks to crews on the scene.

The fire started on the 600 block of Township Road 51 and spread through a field to a home at 466 State Route 273.

According to the Logan County Auditor, the property is registered to Madeline Jordan.

Officials say the home is considered a total loss.

Thankfully, the family was home at the time but managed to escape unharmed.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities remind residents that Ohio is currently under a burn ban from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, which prohibits:

  • Burning brush
  • Burning leaves or yard waste
  • Trash burning
  • Open fires

Spring conditions make fires spread quickly — even a small spark can turn into a serious wildfire. Officials urge the community to do their part to protect homes, farms, woods, and first responders
