Authorities are investigating the death of an adult male who was found unresponsive in the roadway Tuesday afternoon in Urbana.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 12:27 p.m. on February 3 reporting an unresponsive male on Dolly Varden Road near State Route 54.
Deputies and EMS arrived within minutes and located the man outside of a vehicle. He was breathing but had suffered significant head trauma and blood loss. A black Kia Sorento was found parked nearby with no visible damage, and preliminary information at the scene indicated the incident did not appear to be the result of a motor vehicle crash.
Life-saving measures were initiated at the scene, and the man was transported to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Sheriff Chad M. Burroughs said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community based on information gathered thus far.
The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
