A drug trafficking investigation led to the arrest of a Bellefontaine man Saturday evening and the seizure of suspected narcotics, a firearm, and cash.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, police conducted a traffic stop on a gray Land Rover at approximately 5:50 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Campbell Landing Apartment Complex on East Sandusky Avenue.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Carlos Briscoe, was the target of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation and was wanted on an outstanding felony arrest warrant.
Detectives from the Bellefontaine Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the operation.
Police said Briscoe stopped the vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot but was slow to comply with verbal commands from officers.
K-9 Pyro was deployed, and Briscoe was taken into custody.
After Briscoe was arrested, police searched his person and reportedly found a bag containing white pills and cash in his front pocket.
Police said Briscoe also admitted to having cocaine concealed on his person, which was recovered.
According to the report, Briscoe told police there was marijuana and a firearm inside the vehicle.
K-9 Pyro was then deployed around the Land Rover and alerted to the odor of narcotics.
Police conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and discovered additional cash, a loaded 1911 handgun, and marijuana products.
Briscoe’s cell phone was also seized as part of the investigation.
While officers conducted the traffic stop, another team of police executed a narcotics-related search warrant at Briscoe’s apartment within the Campbell Landing complex.
Briscoe was transported to the Logan County Jail and lodged on the outstanding felony warrant.
Additional charges related to the traffic stop and the execution of the search warrant are pending.
