State Route 117, or Lima Street, between the traffic light and Fruit Street in Huntsville remains closed Thursday morning after heavy rain caused flooding in the area.
The flooding created dangerous driving conditions Wednesday evening.
One vehicle became disabled while attempting to drive through the water, and several semis also tried to make it through the flooded roadway.
Drivers are being reminded that floodwaters can become dangerous in a matter of minutes.
It can be difficult to see how deep the water is, whether the roadway has been washed out, or if debris and other hazards are hidden below the surface.
Even a few inches of moving water can affect a vehicle’s traction, while deeper water can quickly sweep a vehicle off the roadway.
Drivers who encounter a flooded road should stop, turn around, and find an alternate route.
Officials are also reminding motorists that attempting to drive through floodwaters can put firefighters, EMS crews, law enforcement officers, and other first responders at risk if a rescue becomes necessary.
