A Zanesfield man was arrested early Saturday morning after firing a gun during what he reported as an attempted theft at his property.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:41 a.m. on February 22, 2026, to a residence in the 8900 block of Township Road 177 for a report of an attempted theft involving a camper.

The caller, identified as 33-year-old Jacob Field, told dispatchers he had been asleep inside his camper when someone attempted to steal it.

He also reported firing a shot at a vehicle he believed was involved, which he said left the area toward State Route 559.

Deputies arriving on scene noted fresh snowfall and reported finding no vehicle tire tracks on the roadway near the camper.

Field was found pacing in the driveway and admitted to firing the shot.

Deputies temporarily secured multiple weapons from his person for safety while they investigated.

Field told deputies he believed multiple individuals were attempting to steal his camper and described hearing a diesel truck and seeing a vehicle without lights.

He later acknowledged firing what he described as a “warning shot” from inside the camper through a broken window, stating he aimed toward trees to avoid hitting anyone.

Deputies located a spent shell casing inside the camper, along with gasoline containers and firearms.

Additional weapons were later recovered from inside the camper for safekeeping.

Family members at the scene told deputies they reviewed nearby security cameras but did not observe any clear evidence of suspicious activity.

Following the investigation, Field was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.

He was charged with discharging a firearm across a roadway, a violation of Ohio Revised Code 2923.162(A)(3).

Jail staff were notified of the circumstances, and a mental health evaluation was requested prior to any future release of the firearms.

All weapons involved were logged into evidence at the sheriff’s office.

The incident remains under review, and no further information has been released at this time.
