Injury crash closes U.S. 33 in Logan County

U.S. Route 33 was closed early Saturday morning in Logan County following a two-vehicle crash that left one driver with life-threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 3:40 a.m. near mile marker 7 in McArthur Township.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2004 Pontiac Vibe driven by 28-year-old Alec Cooper of Lakeview was traveling northwest when it crossed the center line and struck a southeastbound 2022 Freightliner semi head-on.

Cooper was flown to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The semi’s driver, 61-year-old Aaron Fisher of Wapakoneta, was taken by ground ambulance to Mary Rutan Hospital for possible injuries.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office closed the highway shortly before 4 a.m. between Township Road 95 and Township Road 94.

Alcohol is not currently believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marysville Post.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office closed the highway shortly before 4 a.m. between Township Road 95 and Township Road 94.

Initial information indicates the semi went off the roadway.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to release additional details as they become available.
