A Bellefontaine man is facing multiple charges after a domestic disturbance Thursday evening led to a struggle with police and the discovery of a controlled substance after he was booked into the Logan County Jail.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on East Brown Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic dispute.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Donta Johnson, who was standing near the front door.
Police said Johnson was initially hesitant to allow officers to speak with the alleged victim but eventually allowed her to come outside.
Officers reported the woman appeared visibly upset.
Johnson told police the argument was verbal and stemmed from accusations that the woman had been unfaithful.
He denied that anything physical had occurred and said the woman became emotional when officers arrived.
According to the report, the woman said Johnson would not allow her to make phone calls and repeatedly threatened to hit her in the face.
She also alleged that Johnson struck her in the face with a laundry basket.
Police contacted Johnson’s probation officer and advised her of the victim’s statements.
Based on the circumstances, the probation officer determined Johnson was in violation of the terms of his probation and instructed officers to place him under arrest.
According to police, Johnson became argumentative when he was told he was under arrest.
Officers said he actively resisted by dropping to the ground, wedging his hands underneath his chest, and refusing repeated commands to place his hands behind his back.
Police said officers struggled to gain control before using a Taser in drive-stun mode to gain compliance.
Johnson continued resisting while officers handcuffed him before he was secured and transported to the Logan County Jail.
He was initially booked on charges of resisting arrest and a probation violation.
A short time later, jail staff discovered a Suboxone strip in Johnson’s shorts pocket.
The strip was turned over to the Bellefontaine Police Department and logged into evidence.
Because of prior convictions, Johnson was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a fifth-degree felony.
Johnson remains in the Logan County Jail.

A Bellefontaine man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Thursday evening by the Bellefontaine Police Department.
According to Logan County Jail records, 42-year-old Donta Johnson was taken into custody on charges of resisting arrest, possession of drugs, and a probation violation.
Court records indicate Johnson has multiple prior convictions dating back nearly two decades.
His criminal history includes drug-related offenses in 2008 and 2021, as well as previous convictions for burglary, theft, and assault.
As of Friday morning, Johnson remained in the Logan County Jail.
Additional details about the circumstances leading to his arrest have not yet been released.
