A Logan County jury has found Gene Grant guilty of multiple felony charges following a trial in Logan County Common Pleas Court.
On Friday, the jury found Grant guilty of two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping, all first-degree felonies, along with one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony.
The jury deliberated for about three hours.
Grant was found not guilty of another rape charge involving his ex-wife, as well as a charge of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. Prosecutors said the pandering charge involved videos recovered by law enforcement from a family computer tablet.
On the rape convictions, the jury found the victim was under 10 years old, and that Grant purposely compelled her to submit through force or the threat of force.
On the kidnapping conviction, the jury found the victim was under 18, and that Grant committed the offense with a sexual motivation.
Grant also faces sexually violent predator specifications connected to the rape and kidnapping charges.
Through his attorney, John Cunningham of Dayton, Grant elected to have Judge Kevin P. Braig determine whether the sexually violent predator specifications apply. The jury was then discharged.
Judge Braig will hold a separate hearing at a later date to make that determination.
Grant’s bond was revoked, and he was ordered to remain in the Logan County Jail pending sentencing.
The court will conduct a pre-sentence investigation before scheduling a sentencing hearing.
The rape convictions require the court to impose a sentence of at least 25 years to life in prison.
