Russells Point Police and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office worked together Saturday night during a traffic stop that led to the arrest of 58-year-old Anthony Maxwell of Houston.
Police stopped Maxwell around 8:15 p.m. in Russells Point after an officer noticed a vehicle with loud exhaust and a registration that did not return to an owner or identify the vehicle.
During the stop, Maxwell admitted he did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance.
Police say he also handed the officer two containers containing marijuana and told police there was a large knife inside the driver’s door.
The officer became suspicious that there could be additional drugs inside the vehicle and requested assistance from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy and K-9 Tega responded to the scene.
Tega was deployed around the vehicle and alerted to the driver’s door.
Law enforcement then searched the vehicle and found inside the center console a clear glass vial containing a white, crystal-like substance.
The substance tested positive for methamphetamine and was later weighed at approximately 0.622 grams.
Maxwell was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail.
He faces a fifth-degree felony charge of drug possession, along with charges for fictitious plates and non-compliance suspension.
