A new white oak tree has taken root in Lakeview as part of a statewide effort to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
The ceremonial tree planting took place Tuesday at Lakeview Harbor, 11220 State Route 366, as part of the Heritage Trees: Planting History program through America 250-Ohio.
The Logan County tree was planted at Lakeview Harbor to honor America’s 250th anniversary from 1776 to 2026.
The site also serves as a living symbol of local renewal, strength, and rebirth following the destructive EF-3 tornado that struck the Lakeview community.
Native-to-Ohio white oak trees were selected for the program because they grow in a variety of soil types, resist most tree diseases and are native to Ohio.
The Logan County Board of Commissioners recognized the occasion with a proclamation declaring September 29, 2026, America 250-Ohio Heritage Tree Day.
The proclamation reads:
“Proclamation
WHEREAS, the United States of America will observe its Semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, marking a milestone in our nation’s history of liberty, resilience, and democracy; and
WHEREAS, the official state commission, America 250-Ohio, has launched the statewide initiative Heritage Trees: Planting History to plant a native Ohio white oak tree in all 88 counties of our great state as a living legacy gift; and
WHEREAS, this meaningful program draws inspiration from the historic Liberty Tree of the American Revolutionary War period, symbolizing strength, unity, and endurance; and
WHEREAS, planting this commemorative white oak honors our rich past, celebrates our vibrant present, and invests in a green environmental future for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, our local community is proud to host this ceremonial planting, uniting residents, leaders, and environmental stewards in common purpose and civic pride;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Logan County Board of County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim September 29, 2026.
AMERICA 250-OHIO HERITAGE TREE DAY
In our community and urge all citizens to join in recognizing the deep roots we share in our local and national history, and to participate in the ongoing stewardship of our natural environment.”**
