After years in the making and countless hours of work by many officials, the Logan County Animal Shelter is officially open for business.

Deputy Jake Boyd, who also serves as the Logan County Dog Warden, spearheaded the project, overseeing every stage from planning to completion, and celebrated seeing the facility come to fruition.

Several contractors worked for several months to complete the project, which cost the Logan County Commissioners $2 million.

According to officials, after carefully shuffling funding, there is no loan on the building.

Commissioner Joe Antram talks about the shelter:

The shelter is operated under the umbrella of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and is located on the same grounds as the Logan County Jail on County Road 32 in Bellefontaine.

The shelter is open to the public:

  • Thursday: 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Friday:  12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday 12:00 PM- 6:00 PM

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Friday, with the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, Visitors Bureau, county officials, friends, and family on site to celebrate the opening.

The shelter aims to provide a safe, welcoming space for animals in need and to support the community with pet adoption, care, and education programs.

Sheriff Randy Dodds says this is all new to the office:

Sheriff Dodds also awarded Deputy Boyd with a commendation for his work with the shelter.
