Logan County voters will once again be asked to consider a new levy for the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
The Logan County Commissioners approved placing a 2-mill levy on the November ballot during their meeting Tuesday.
A 2.75-mill levy for the agency was on the May primary ballot but was defeated by voters.
According to Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent Krista Oldiges, the new proposal would cost property owners about $70 annually for every $100,000 of property valuation, or approximately $5.83 per month.
Oldiges said the board reduced its request after making significant budget cuts, including staff layoffs, reduced hours for several employees, and leaving multiple positions unfilled. Several programs have also been cut or reduced.
The Board of Developmental Disabilities is currently operating under a fiscal emergency designation from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
Oldiges said rising costs have been driven by an increase in the number of people receiving services, individuals with higher support needs, and higher provider reimbursement rates.
If the levy does not pass in November, Oldiges said the board will have to consider reducing or eliminating non-mandated programs.
The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities has not received voter approval for a new levy since 2005.
Unlike property values, the amount collected through the levy does not automatically increase as property values rise.
