Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded Monday evening after a motorcycle crash sent a rider into the rocks and water below the Long Island bridge on State Route 273.
According to the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 5:13 p.m. along with BMRT Ambulance District and Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department for a reported motorcycle accident with ejection near State Route 273 and Shady Lane at the bridge.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Dalton Loyer of Lima was operating a 2015 Victory High-Ball motorcycle when he lost control on the bridge, struck a guardrail, and was ejected from the motorcycle into the rocks below near the water.
When first responders arrived, rescuers entered the water to assist with patient care.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Watercraft also responded with a boat to help remove Loyer from the area below the bridge.
After he was stabilized and secured, Loyer was placed aboard the boat and transported to the nearest dock, where EMS crews took him to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Deputies said they were unable to speak with Loyer at the scene because of his injuries.
Pending citations include failure to control and operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement.
Tops Towing responded to remove and secure the motorcycle from the scene.
Assisting agencies included the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department, BMRT Ambulance District, Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Parks and Watercraft Division.
