Ohio residents can cast a line this weekend without purchasing a fishing license during the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ annual Free Fishing Days.
On Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, anyone can fish in Ohio’s public waters, including Lake Erie, public lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and streams, without a license.
The weekend marks the only time each year that Ohio residents ages 16 and older can fish for free without obtaining a fishing license.
Anglers younger than 16 may fish year-round without a license.
While the license requirement is waived for the weekend, all other fishing regulations remain in effect, including size restrictions, daily bag limits, and season regulations.
Governor Mike DeWine encouraged Ohioans to take advantage of the opportunity.
“Fishing is a great Ohio pastime for people of all ages,” DeWine said. “From the great Lake Erie to the Ohio River, Ohio’s great outdoors provides the perfect setting for your next fishing trip.”
ODNR officials say the free fishing weekend is designed to introduce new anglers to the sport and encourage families and friends to spend time outdoors together.
