Diego Jesus Pinerez Calderas, 32, of Bellefontaine, was arrested Saturday night after Bellefontaine Police responded to a 911 hang-up call and learned of threats during a domestic dispute.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 10:35 p.m. to the 500 block of Newell Street after a 911 call was disconnected.
The dispatcher reported hearing a male speaking Spanish before the call ended.
Officers found the victim, who did not speak English and communicated with police through a Bellefontaine Police Dispatcher, who translated over the phone.
Police said the victim was visibly upset and crying and reported getting into an argument with Pinerez Calderas, who the victim said was highly intoxicated.
The victim told police Pinerez Calderas threatened to kill them if they contacted police.
The victim also reported he threatened to kill himself if he was unsuccessful in killing the victim, and said he would kill himself if he encountered police after being released from jail.
The victim told police the argument was verbal but said Pinerez Calderas had been physically aggressive toward them in the past.
The victim said they believed the threats and were afraid for their safety.
Officers later saw Pinerez Calderas walking toward the residence and took him into custody.
The victim told police they had recorded a video showing Pinerez Calderas threatening them.
A family member showed officers the video, which reportedly captured the victim hiding the phone while recording.
Police said the video appeared to show the victim crying and whimpering in fear while Pinerez Calderas yelled at them.
The video also reportedly showed an argument over the victim’s car keys and Pinerez Calderas telling the victim to return inside the residence.
Police said the victim reported that Pinerez Calderas threatened them but did not physically force them back inside.
The victim told police Pinerez Calderas had two phones and had recorded additional videos containing threats.
Officers seized both phones while seeking a search warrant to retrieve the recordings.
According to the victim’s statement, they had gone to Las Cabos with Pinerez Calderas before returning to the residence.
The victim reported that Pinerez Calderas had recorded videos stating he was going to kill them.
The victim said they left the residence and returned after seeing a patrol car.
Pinerez Calderas was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Police were later advised that he became combative with jail staff and spit at officers.
Pinerez Calderas was lodged on charges of fourth-degree felony domestic violence and first-degree misdemeanor aggravated menacing.
