Spring on the farm just got a little sweeter– The Shroyer family has been named the 2026 Logan County Farm Family of the Year, joining a long-standing tradition that has honored outstanding agricultural families in the community since 1979.

The Logan County Farm Bureau recognized the family for their continued dedication to agriculture, innovation, and community involvement, adding the Shroyers to a list of respected farm families who have helped shape the region’s agricultural legacy.

Based near De Graff, the family’s operation—Shroyer Show Stock and Shroyer Sisters Show Stock—blends a rich farming heritage with modern technology to produce elite sheep, goats, and cattle.

The farm’s roots run deep.

John Shroyer’s mother, Anne “Milroy” Shroyer, grew up on a Huntsville-area farm raising Corriedale sheep, cattle, and turkeys.

Their sheep earned national recognition, traveling across the country by rail to compete in shows.

John’s father, Larry Shroyer, raised multiple breeds of sheep while farming 1,200 acres in the DeGraff area.

Today, that legacy continues through a large-scale livestock and hay operation.

The family manages approximately 500 ewes, 150 ewe lambs, 50 goats, and 140 cattle, with hundreds of lambs and kids born each year.

What sets the Shroyer operation apart is its use of advanced reproductive technologies.

The family utilizes embryo transfer, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and sexed semen to enhance livestock genetics.

Plans are also underway to expand into cloning using established cell lines from elite animals raised on the farm.

Beyond production, the Shroyers are heavily involved in education and outreach.

Their annual Shroyer 101 Lamb Camp draws about 150 participants each year, teaching young exhibitors how to properly care for and show livestock.

Additional training sessions, judging workouts, and breeding clinics are held throughout the year.

John sat down with News Director April King for a quick interview earlier this week:

The family also supports youth in agriculture through the Shroyer Build Forward Grant, assists local FFA chapters, and contributes to county and state fairs.

Their livestock are marketed nationwide through both private sales and online platforms.

The operation is truly family-driven.

John oversees breeding and livestock management, while Lori Shroyer leads youth programming, marketing, and events.

Their daughters are actively involved in showing animals and preparing to carry on the family tradition.

A dedicated team of employees, interns, and extended family members support the day-to-day work.

The Shroyers regularly travel across the country to major livestock shows, earning top honors at national and state levels, including events in Louisville, Denver, Kansas City, and Phoenix.

Looking ahead, the family plans to continue growing their operation, expanding the use of advanced technologies, and building a sustainable future for the next generation.
