Strong storms that swept through Logan County Tuesday night caused widespread damage on the campus of Benjamin Logan Schools, especially impacting the elementary building.
District officials say the storm hit around 8:15 p.m., damaging the roof of the elementary school and forcing its closure.
Damage was reported across the school grounds.
A school bus parked near a barn was blown over, utility poles were snapped, and several small outbuildings were tossed by powerful winds.
Superintendent John Scheu praised staff members for their quick response, noting that some worked through the night to clean up and prepare the campus.
Their efforts allowed most of the district to open, with the exception of the elementary, on Wednesday on a two-hour delay.
The Logan County Emergency Management Agency and Ohio EMA were on site Wednesday morning to assess the damage and continue surveying impacted areas.
Preliminary reports suggest wind speeds may have reached up to 90 miles per hour, though officials say a tornado is not believed to have touched down.
School officials also thanked contractors and community members who responded quickly, calling the recovery effort a team response.
