Tornado sirens went off Saturday night in Logan & Champaign Counties as dark clouds were starting to rotate around the area.
Around 8:30 p.m., DeGraff, Quincy and Bellefontaine were warned to take cover as a strong cell was moving across the region. DeGraff was hammered with rain, but no tornado was reported. Several spectators took pictures and video of possible formations and rolling clouds. The sirens continued for several minutes and Bellefontaine sounded again at 8:45. By 9:00 the warnings were over.
Champaign County was just getting started when Logan County was breathing a sigh of relief. A reported funnel cloud was spotted near Kiser Lake according to the National Weather Service. A strong storm was sweeping east along Route 36 going through St. Paris and approaching Urbana. Champaign County went under a Tornado Warning until 9:30. One video showed a small funnel cloud briefly touch the ground in Champaign County, but the rotation was light and no damage was found. The storm marched through Urbana and north of Mechanicsburg before leaving the county. The National Weather Service canceled the Tornado Warning at 9:23 for Champaign County. Residents in the county are still recovering from the storms on Tuesday that damaged several homes, knocked out power lines, and closed the Champaign County Fair.
