A traffic stop in Washington Township led to the arrests of two Richwood residents on multiple drug-related charges after officers discovered methamphetamine and fentanyl during an investigation Thursday evening.
The following information was released by the Washington Township Police Department:
On May 29 at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers on patrol near Main Street and Burkhart Avenue conducted a traffic stop on Jason Ford, 57, of Richwood after a registration check revealed his driver’s license was suspended.
Upon making contact with Ford and his passenger, Samantha Lawrence, 40, of Richwood, officers observed signs of possible drug use. While speaking with the occupants, officers reported seeing Lawrence chewing on an unknown substance. A check of her mouth revealed a white powdery substance.
Both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. Ford consented to a search of his person, during which officers located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 3.55 grams. Officers also located $2,000 in cash belonging to Ford.
Lawrence told officers she had a pipe commonly used to consume methamphetamine inside her purse. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located fentanyl on the passenger side of the vehicle.
While officers were speaking with Lawrence about the suspected fentanyl, she became unresponsive. Officers administered three doses of Narcan and requested assistance from Indian Lake EMS. Upon arrival, EMS personnel administered three additional doses of Narcan. Lawrence was then transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment.
Ford was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. He was charged with possession of drugs, trafficking in drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After being released from the hospital, Lawrence was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail. She was charged with possession of drugs, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
