Additional details have been released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol regarding a serious injury crash that occurred Tuesday morning on State Route 29 near South Ludlow Road east of Urbana.

The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, near the intersection of State Route 29 and South Ludlow Road in Salem Township.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 pulling a trailer and driven by Shane Milledge, 18, of New Carlisle, was traveling westbound on State Route 29. A 2013 Ford F-350 driven by John Rutherford Jr., 50, of Urbana, was traveling eastbound on State Route 29.
Investigators said there was a westbound vehicle slowing to turn onto South Ludlow Road from State Route 29. The Chevrolet reportedly swerved to avoid the slowing vehicle, crossed left of center, and collided head-on with the eastbound Ford.
Following the impact, the Ford and the Chevrolet’s detached trailer traveled off the south side of the roadway, while the Chevrolet came to rest in the roadway.
Milledge was transported by air ambulance to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries. Troopers said he is currently listed in stable condition.
Rutherford was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital with minor injuries.
Both lanes of State Route 29 were temporarily closed while emergency crews responded and investigators processed the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Mechanicsburg Fire Department and EMS, Urbana Fire and EMS Division, MedFlight, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Tops Towing & Garage, and Dan’s Towing & Recovery Ltd.
The crash remains under investigation.
