A Bellefontaine man is facing multiple felony charges following an alleged domestic violence and abduction incident Thursday night.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were called to a home on West Auburn Avenue after receiving reports of a possible assault involving a woman being forced into a vehicle.
Officers initially attempted to make contact at the home but received no response.
Police then learned the victim’s cellphone was pinging near County Road 200 and County Road 18, prompting officers and Logan County deputies to begin searching the area.
Investigators later obtained surveillance video from a nearby residence that allegedly showed 33-year-old Tyler Ulmer holding the victim in a chokehold and attempting to force her into a black Chevrolet Tahoe parked outside the home.
According to the report, the video showed Ulmer throwing the victim to the ground before she eventually entered the vehicle.
A nearby witness also reportedly told officers she observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe driving erratically in the area shortly after the incident.
While officers searched for the vehicle, authorities say Ulmer contacted a family member by phone and stated that everything was fine and that he and the victim wanted to be left alone.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office later made contact with the victim’s mother, who reportedly told investigators Ulmer had allegedly threatened to kill the woman.
At approximately 9:43 p.m., a West Liberty Police Department officer located the black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling on State Route 508.
Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took Ulmer into custody.
The victim was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department for questioning before later being taken to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Ulmer was lodged in the Logan County Jail on charges of domestic violence, felonious assault, strangulation, and abduction.
