A traffic stop in Washington Township led to the arrest of two Fort Wayne residents after officers say they found more than 340 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

According to Washington Township Police, officers stopped a vehicle around 5:40 PM Thursday on U.S. Route 33 near Township Road 239 for marked-lanes and registration violations.

Police said the driver, 50-year-old Kimberly Fields, and passenger, 45-year-old Morgan Perona, appeared overly nervous during the traffic stop and showed signs of possible drug use.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene with K9 Tega.

Police said the K9 alerted to the odor of illegal drugs inside the vehicle.

Officers then conducted a probable-cause search.

Police say two clear plastic bags containing a white crystal substance were found inside Fields’ purse.

The bags weighed 2.01 grams and 3.57 grams, and both field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

A larger clear plastic bag containing a white crystal substance was found on the passenger-side floorboard wrapped inside a shirt.

Police said that bag weighed 338.63 grams and also field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Officers also found a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl.

According to police, the investigation found that Fields and Perona had recently purchased the methamphetamine in Columbus and were transporting it to Fort Wayne for distribution.

Both were taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.

Fields and Perona are each charged with possession of methamphetamine, a first-degree felony; trafficking in methamphetamine, a first-degree felony; and possession of fentanyl, a fifth-degree felony.

The Russells Point Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted Washington Township Police with the investigation.
